The Texan of the Year Gala benefiting Variety, the Children's Charity of Texas, is an annual fundraising event that serves as a platform to recognize and honor the remarkable achievements and philanthropic endeavors of exceptional (and honorary) Texans who have made significant contributions to Variety and the individuals we serve.
This year, we are honoring Derek Alley, CEO of VCC Construction, the builders of The Grandscape! With a classic cowboy western theme for our 2024 gala, guests are in for a GRAND boot-scootin’ good time with food, drinks, and fun. Come to support Texas kids, stay to take a photo live Longhorn photo opportunity and ride the Grandscape Ferris Wheel.

Event Details for Texan of the Year Gala- Honoring Derek Alley
Date: August 28, 2024
Time: 6:30PM- 10:00PM
Location: Galaxy Theatre, 5752 Grandscape Blvd, The Colony, TX 75056
Transportation: Bus departs for the Gala from the Embassy Suites Side Lobby Entrance at 6:00 PM and 6:15 PM. Bus departs for the Embassy Suites from the Grandscape Ferris Wheel at 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM. Please note you are also welcome to Uber or drive yourself.
Schedule:
Cocktail hour starts at 6:30PM, and will include classic movie snacks, drinks, and a photo opportunity with a live Longhorn.
Program and live auction starts at 7:30PM.
Reception starts at 8:30PM, featuring free rides on the ferris wheel and drinks and bites from the following Grandscape eateries: Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse, Quartino Ristorante, Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux, Rock & Brews, and Galaxy Theatre.
Event ends at 10:00PM, but you are welcome to explore the Cineshow grounds afterwards.

Derek Alley, CEO at VCC Construction, is a dynamic executive leading company operations, project management, relationship management, and financial analysis. Since joining VCC in 2008, Alley has continually supported Variety of Texas’ mission through their philanthropic organization VCC Cares. Founded in 2014, VCC Cares has given over 5 million dollars to charities nationwide. In addition to our annual Charity Golf Classic, they participate in volunteer opportunities and sponsor events for various charities in our communities. Alley has served on the Board of Directors for the Variety Charity of Texas, showcasing his commitment to community impact for many years.
