Richard has been a long-time camper at Camp Soaring Eagle, a camp for kids with neurological differences. In addition to his neurological difference, Richard is also deaf-the only deaf camper at Soaring Eagle. For many years, Richard has communicated with his peers with sign language and his favorite sign, the same gesture his hero Spiderman uses to cast webs. Just like Spiderman, Richard casts webs of enchantment wherever he goes-spreading laughter and smiles to all his fellow campers and his counselors. In the time between summer camps, Richard got a cochlear implant, allowing him to engage with his peers in a new way while he was at camp this past summer. Equally incredible is the love and caring the other campers show for Richard, as they try to learn different signs to be able to engage with him. Imagine how beautiful the world would be, if we all took the time to truly understand each other in the same way!
